We all had an awesome weekend filled with Fall Fun!
We went to Airlie Farms for a fun Fall treat. The kids loved the hayride, slides, and the corn maze. It was small and quaint and not as fun as we thought it would be, but the kids still had a great time. We got lost in the "dark maze" and that was not any of our favorite part!
We went looking for rain boots after the Farm and it is so hard to find them in our kids sizes. They are still "kids" but their feet seem to disagree. Our daughter wears a size 5 in women's shoes and she is only 9 years old! Boots are so expensive- I would have never guessed! I think $45 dollars a pair is just too much when our kids are growing as much as they are. They have been home since July and we have measured them every month. Our kids have grown about an inch each month they have been here! It is just unreal!
Once we got home Sat night I baked the pumpkins to prepare for making pumpkin cookies the next day. We watched Zookeeper together.. All laying on the floor together. It was fun!
Yesterday the kids painted their pumpkins and just played around the house. It was a much needed day of rest. Last night we made Prayer Circles and prayed for the people/items in each one. It was a great experience. We are really trying to teach the kids about how to pray independently and how to pray with others. I love that they love to pray! They especially love to sign The Lord's Prayer.. Melts my heart every time!
It was interesting to watch S over the weekend after taking her medicine. I am not sure if the meds are making her more "teary" or if it is the Tween stage that she is going through, but she certainly cries at every little thing... She cried because she couldn't find some play pants, she cried because she broke a hanger (*note: maybe she got in trouble in another house for breaking a hanger?), and she cried when I asked her if she had been biting her nails. This isn't a bratty, "I want attention" cry... But more like, a broken-hearted, the world is falling apart around me kind of cry. The doctor said to watch out for new moods so we will have to keep an eye on this.. Although I think this stage started a little before she started these new meds.
Our son has started to tell little lies here and there. I am convinced that he does this because he "can". He wasn't able to tell lies before because he didn't have enough language.. He is testing the waters now. It is interesting because while he has Theory of Mind in many ways, there are definite areas where he lacks such skill. He has been eating two lunches at school. We always pack him a lunch because he eats a LOT and I want to make sure that he has enough to eat. Well, I guess he started eating a school lunch too (my guess is he was getting this when it was something he was in the mood for because it was not everyday). The teacher told us that he is not allowed to have two lunches everyday and he had a talk with our boy. We then followed up and told him he was not allowed to get a lunch from the cafeteria. He said he would not do it again and would only eat his packed lunch. Well, he came home on Friday and handed me his lunch box. I asked if he at all his lunch and he said yes... It felt very heavy so I opened it while he was standing there and he had not even opened on item inside. I asked what he ate for lunch and he said Pizza.. he ate the school lunch. He could not understand how I KNEW he didn't eat his packed lunch... the concept that all the food was there and that he would be busted hadn't occurred to him. After we talked about it he understood, but when he made the decision he certainly didn't think about that. I would MUCH rather this kind of lie at this point because it is so easy to catch and talk about... I am sure some day lies will occur that are much less obvious and I will wish to go back to a time when things were more simple.
Overall, we just are happy and loving life. God is amazing and our family is blessed!
