I Can See the Fingerprints of God...

Whenever I think about children my heart and mind tend to wander to the spiritual.  In the Bible we are told that we must have the heart of a child to enter into the Kingdom of God.  Is this because children love without limit, except without hesitation, and believe without seeing?  Is this because they are still so new and so fresh from God that His breath and fingerprints can still be seen on them?

My little niece and I had a conversation the other day and she is 3 years old.  It went something like this:

Skylar: Do you have Jesus in your heart?
Me: Yes, I do!!  He is a very BIG Jesus in my heart.
Skylar: Nooo, Jesus is very tiny because he fits in your heart.

Most times we like to think of God being big.. Bigger than our problems.  Bigger than our worries and doubts.  Bigger than famine, disease, or fighting.  But really what is bigger than our hearts?  And what could ever be more intimate?  For Jesus to be big enough to rule the entire world, but small enough to dwell in our little hearts--- He must be quite some God.  I am not sure what my Skylar would draw if I asked her what she thought it meant to have Jesus living in our hearts.  Would she think it is literal? Have a window and a door ...With Jesus standing in His pajamas?  Or at 3 years old does she already know that is figurative...Or is it?

With the Spirit here among us- is Jesus really chilling out in our hearts in his slippers and robe? Is that why we are able to have discernment? To be able to tell a fellow traveler of the way?  Are His fingerprints still visable on us as we get older, less wise, more dirty?

I like to think so.  I like to think that God has His hand in everything we do.  I pray we see His hand in our adoption process. I pray that He can call us to be faithful and then make us into the people and parents He dreams for us to become.
