Quiet your heart
It's just a dream
Go back to sleep

I'll be right here
I'll stay awake
As long as you need me

To slay all the dragons
And keep out the monsters
I'm watching over you

My love is a light
Driving away all of your fear
So don't be afraid
Remember I made a promise to keep you safe

You'll have your own battles to fight
When you are older
You'll find yourself frozen inside
But always remember...

If you feel alone facing the giants
And you don't know what to do...

My love is a light
Driving away all of your fear
So don't be afraid
Remember I made a promise to keep you...
Safe

My love is a light
Driving away all of your fear
So don't be afraid
Remember I made a promise to keep you safe

I can't wait until our little ones are here and I can sign and hum this to them.  The concept of safety is so foreign to many of the little ones in our state foster care system.  They often are taken from their homes and then placed in homes that aren't any more safe than the ones they are being taken from.  I have to believe- and I pray I am right- that God is in the restoring business.. that he can take a child's heart that is hardened with fear, abuse, rejection, and doubt...and turn it into a healthy little heart that can believe in love again.

I can't promise that we will be perfect parents.. I can't promise that we will never disappoint our kids, and I can't even promise that nothing will ever happen... But we can promise to be there every night when they close their eyes and drift to sleep. We can promise to kiss them and tell them we love them and help enlist in the battle to fight their monsters...

We can promise that everyday that God grants us life on this earth that we will do the best we are able to show the the love and joy they were created to know.

We can also promise that we are gonna be the best moms that we know how to be and that when we are stuck that we will ask for help.  When we need new tools that we will get them.... That we won't give up or walk away. That we will love these kids with all of our hearts.
