We had a great therapy session on Tuesday evening. The therapist discussed cellular memory- even when your brain doesn't remember something, your body might remember it. She suggested that the lies that our daughter have been telling might have something to do with her not feeling safe at this time of year. In all actuality, this is the EXACT time last year that the kids were forcefully removed from their long term foster home of 2 years (the longest placement they had ever had) because of abuse and moved to another home. NO WONDER. She really started these behaviors exactly around the time they were transferred to their new home. If that doesn't make you a believer in cellular memory, I don't know what will!
We stopped her medication and her attitude is back to normal. She is silly and laughing again in a way she had not been while on the meds. The therapist suggested that maybe the meds were making her cranky and she just didn't know how to handle those emotions if she is not typically cranky by nature. Sure enough, we haven't seen those behaviors the last 3 days she has been off the meds! WOW.
While that solves one problem (at least for now!) it still presents another. We need to try a new medication and that won't be fun! Her executive functioning is compromised and so the therapist suggested neuro testing. We are in this for the long haul!
We also went to the eye doctor yesterday and found out that our daughter's eyes don't work together. She has to wear a patch every night (since before we adopted her) because we need to strengthen her blurry eye- but I didn't know that they were in fact not working together! WOW. So, we need to keep working on strengthening her eye and they getting them aligned to work together.
The life of a new Momma is never dull!
