I can't believe that the kids start school next week! I think it will be good in many ways for them- the routine, the social aspect, and the mental simulation...But I am a little nervous because our kids are so immature for their age that it might be hard for them to adjust in their classes. I think our son going to the Deaf school will be good because kids who go to the Deaf school are usually so diverse and come with so many different backgrounds... Here is Oregon, most of the kiddos come from homes where their families don't sign and so by the time they put them in the Deaf school they are just as behind as our son!
Our daughter is very immature for her age in so many ways. I know she has struggled in the past with her school interactions- with peers making fun of her... She has started to use language like, "It's not nice to make fun of me" even if we are laughing or giggling because she is cute... She is all of the sudden very sensitive so I think there must be some trigger going off for her that she isn't even aware of.
Also, she has been really giving us a hard time about using her eye patch... The doctor said it is essential and that she will lose vision in her left eye if she doesn't wear it... Well now she started being sneaky and lifting her glasses up to watch TV when we leave the room... So, she lost TV privileges and she had the biggest meltdown. We aren't huge fans of television but we do let them watch some shows or movies as a means of reward... Her meltdown was like she was about 2 and like it was the end of the world. She went in to take a shower after the meltdown was over and was in there for a long time. I finally went in to see what was going on and she was cleaning the shower-- this was something she did, OCD, when she first came... She has been doing much better with the OCD stuff lately, but last night after her fit she started doing it again, so it must be some trigger there as well.
The more we get to know the kids the better we are able to detect their triggers... Psychology of the human mind is FASCINATING!
My mom comes to visit tomorrow and that is really exciting that she will get to meet the kiddos for the first time :) Thank God for her visit :) I love my mommy!
